Projects in the United States

Marine Research Center – Bunker’s Harbor Maine: The same principles that govern the foundation’s actions in remote rainforests apply as well nearer at hand. The introduction of new technology and importation of new processes to the fishermen on the coast of Maine is the object of a PJF project which will transform a 100 year old lobster pound in Bunker’s Harbor to a marine research facility. The facility has the dual purpose of creating healthy marine environments and a strong local economy at the same time. Thus, the facility will focus on research projects which recognize that successful conservation can involve successful business. With this in mind, the fishermen themselves will be empowered to choose among submitted projects.

Event Center – Birch Harbor Maine: The center will provide a world-class venue for conferences, weddings, reunions, etc., and will cater to individuals and groups interested in environmental and societal health. It will also provide a window to the world for Foundation projects by utilizing and featuring outputs of these projects including furniture, food products, crafts, textiles, etc. 100% of event center profits will be used to support Foundation projects.

Two venues are currently available, one formal and one informal. A new 200 person capacity performance pavilion is also under construction and scheduled for completion in 2006. The location is a short walk from Schoodic Peninsula’s Acadia National Park. This area draws a very eclectic and cosmopolitan group of vacationers from all over the world.
